Avatar bildades kring millennieskiftet av John Alfredsson och sedan dess har det tillkommit medlemmar som fått bandets energi att stiga mot himlen som ett gigantiskt svampmoln. Bandet är passionerade, skoningslösa och ständigt i rörelse framåt. Försök inte placera dem i ett fack, för Avatar är en pusselbit som inte passar in i musikens många gånger trånga fack.

Avatar är en dödsmelodisk freakshow som tänjer på alla möjliga gränser på ett föredömligt sätt. Att bandets namn betyder "Gud i förklädnad" känns många gånger väldigt passande.
